MLB The Show 26 Pitch Selection Essentials from U4GM
#1
With two strikes, the urge to swing at anything close can be hard to resist. Don't let it take over. Look for pitches you can reach, and watch for the slider that starts near the plate before drifting away. The same goes for a changeup dropping below the zone. You might take a called third strike now and then, but chasing every low pitch usually ends with weak contact. Whether you're building a lineup with MLB 26 stubs or playing Franchise, that two-strike decision matters more than any single player's rating.

Make Your Fastball Swing Count

A fastball over the middle can disappear in a hurry, especially when you've spent the whole at-bat worrying about a slider. Pick a spot before the pitch and be ready to swing if the ball arrives there. Good timing matters, but so does keeping the plate coverage indicator, or PCI, on the ball. You don't need to hit a home run every time. A hard line drive into the gap works just fine. With a contact hitter, that might be your best outcome. With a power hitter, the same approach can turn a mistake into a ball over the wall.

Give Yourself a Better Count

Patience doesn't mean standing there with the bat on your shoulder. If the first pitch lands in your favorite part of the zone, take your swing. Otherwise, let the pitcher show you something. A 2-0 count gives you room to wait for a pitch you like, and a 3-1 count can put more pressure on the pitcher to throw a strike. That doesn't guarantee a fastball, though. Some players will still throw a breaking pitch and hope you'll chase. If you can't pick up its path early, taking it is often the better call.

Keep the PCI Under Control

It's tempting to flick the PCI toward every pitch, especially against a pitcher throwing in the upper 90s. Try starting with a smaller target instead. Look for a high fastball, an inside sinker, or something over the plate, then move the PCI smoothly when you recognize the pitch. Huge last-second movements can pull it past the ball. After an out, check your swing feedback. Were you late Was the PCI underneath the pitch Maybe the pitch was never in a spot you should've attacked. Knowing which mistake you made gives you something useful to work on next time.

Read the Pitcher and Adjust

Pay attention to what your opponent likes to throw, but don't assume the same pitch is coming forever. If you've seen several fastballs, be ready for a change of speed. If a slider keeps missing away, make the pitcher prove they can bring it back over the plate. And don't sit on one location all game; a sharp opponent will notice. Lineup choices matter too, and MLB stubs can be part of how you build a roster in Diamond Dynasty. Once you're at the plate, though, it's your pitch selection and timing that give those hitters a chance to produce.
